Nigerian On-Air-Personality, Eleso Moyosoreoluwa, popularly known as TalkingMo has launched a platform, Volunteer Hub Nigeria that seeks to connect volunteers with opportunities. The Volunteer Hub Nigeria was made public today, December 5, 2018 in commemoration of International Volunteer Day 2018.
Eleso Moyosoreoluwa who has been deeply involved in social development works through the act of volunteering, made it known that the platform will not only connect young people to volunteering opportunities but will also boost rapid response to calls for lending a hand for the actualization of sustainable development goals in Nigeria.
Speaking on the benefits of the platform, she added that the listing of volunteering, internship and even job openings by organizations, government parastatals and employers of labour would bridge the gap between volunteers, job seekers and organization as well as companies who seek their services. She added that people who volunteer and have it on their CVs are more likely to get jobs than those who do not volunteer.
Another On-Air-Personality, Temitope Ogunmokun known as Chocolate recounted her volunteering experience, noting that it contributes hugely to skills development and has helped people carve a niche for themselves in different aspects of the society and their profession. She further added that volunteering is not lip service but rather a call to genuine service to humanity.
“Volunteering has broadened my network of people”, says Olawunmi Omope, a student of History and International Studies, Lagos State University (LASU). She continued “I have gotten to meet people who have the same drive and passion towards education and we have been able to collaborate on a couple of projects, I have also had opportunities to meet people, who I would never have met on a level playing ground. Through volunteering, I have been able to get opportunities that I might not have had. She concluded by saying Volunteering is something everyone should get involved in.
Uzuegbu Faith Chidinma, a proud volunteer, shared her Volunteering story, she noted that volunteering has opened her eyes to a different sphere of life and it has heightened her passion for humanity and service. She added that the best part of volunteering is that you do not have to start with the 'big' events or platforms, You can make great impact in your immediate environment and there is no greater joy than knowing that someone is smiling because of you. She said “Right now, I want a future dedicated to helping humanity through volunteering”
While young people around the globe have continued to share their Volunteering stories more people need to get involved in volunteering and this new platform seeks to promote the act.
